Marcellus CSD Athletic Field: A Gold Star
April 13, 2009 - Parrone Engineering is proud to annouce that its Marcellus Central School District Athletic Field Project was the recipient of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2009 Gold Award for Engineering Excellence. This is the third time that the firm has won the ACEC Gold Award and the second time for athletic field design.
The Marcellus Central School District had a vision: to create a first-rate athletic facility that was capable of hosting multiple athletic events...and standing up to harsh upstate New York winters. Parrone Engineering played an integral role in turning the District's goal into a reality by converting what was conceived as a low-potential parcel of land into a high-scoring athletic facility. The firm was specifically responsible for all site and civil engineering aspects of the project. This work included:
- Site Design
- Athletic Field Design
- Parking Areas
- Stadium and Site Lighting
- Selecting Synthetic Turf Fields and Natural Turf Fields
- Design of Pedestrian Access Routes and Gathering Areas
- Drainage Improvements
- Soil Enhancement and Conditioning
- Grading
Parrone Engineering also completed the site design for a number of track and field events, including an eight-lane international broken back, encapsulated all-weather surface running track, a steeplechase, a long jump/triple jump, pole vault, and shot-put/discus throw.
"This award is a testament to our firm's commitment of providing "rocksolid" designs that are practical, safe, and timeless for our clients," said Edward G. Parrone, P.E., President and CEO of the firm. According to Michael P. Montalto, Project Manager, "The innovative design and thoughtful engineering behind this project ensure that both the athletic teams and the community will enjoy the athletic facility today and create lasting memories for the future."
