University of Rochester Biomedical Engineering and Optics Building

Parrone Engineering was commissioned to provide engineering and land surveying services for the five-story, 92,000 square foot Biomedical Engineering and Optics Building.

Site engineering services included demolition to the existing physics lab and engineering machine shop building; relocation of watermains and sanitary and storm sewers; and the reconfiguration of existing drives.

Topographic locations were provided for the overall project location for the completion of the science and engineering quadrangle, which the new Biomedical Building was a part of.  The proposed 20,000 square foot footprint for this state-of-the-art building positions itself over an 80 year-old steam and communications tunnel and encompasses two sides of the existing Wilmont Building.  A major component of this project was utility coordination to ensure that services to the existing buildings would be maintained during all phases of construction.
